DISCIPLINE POLICY

Students are expected to treat each other and their teachers with respect and courtesy. When their behavior falls outside of this expectation, they will face the consequences detailed below:

Methods of Discipline

1. 1st referral - reprimand by principal or assistant principal

2. 2nd referral - detention hall - Hamburg High School operates detention hall after school. It is the student's responsibility to keep up with and serve detention in accordance with school procedures.

3. 3rd referral - 2 or more detention hall assignments

4. 4th referral - In School Suspension (ISS) 2 days

5. 5th referral - In School Suspension (ISS) 4 days

6. 6th referral - In School Suspension (ISS) 6 days

        a. all procedures for maintaining correct student behavior that have been in practice will remain in effect. Only when students have reached the point that suspension would be in order will they be assigned to ISS. Students who choose not to go to ISS will not be allowed to return to regular class, and their absences will be marked unexcused until they have attended ISS and fulfilled its requirements.

        b. Students assigned to ISS will be given the opportunity to complete assignments and tests given while they are there. FUll credit will be given for the work done while in ISS. The ISS staff will coordinate this work with the student and teachers.

        c. Students assigned to ISS will not be permitted to participate in or attend assemblies, athletic contests, or any school-sponsored activity during the time they are assigned to ISS. This includes the last day of ISS.

        d. Students will be closely supervised while assigned to ISS. They will not be allowed to associates with the other students while attending ISS. Only necessary breaks will be permitted for water and restroom use. Lunch will be served in the Allbritton Cafeteria, and students will eat as a group. They will not be permitted to leave the group for lunch.

        e. Students who are employed during regular school hours will need to rearrange their work schedules while assigned to ISS.

7. 7th referral - Suspension 3 days

8. 8th referral - Suspension 5 days

Students who are suspended out of school (OSS) may not enter any of the Hamburg School District grounds (except for a prearranged conference with an administrator) for a period set by the principal or assistant principal of the school or the superintendent. Suspension will be no longer than ten (10) school days including the day on which the offense occurred. Students suspended from school for ten (10) days or fewer may appeal his/her suspension to the superintendent.

9. 9th referral - Suspension 10 days with the recommendation for expulsion for the remainder of the semester.

THE ADMINISTRATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO BYPASS ANY LEVEL OF THE DISCIPLINE POLICY BASED ON THE SEVERITY OF AN OFFENSE.
